Siberian Names

This page is being added as a work in progress. When we are asked for advice on naming a new puppy, we try to take in the puppy's unique personality.  We believe that if you get a Siberian from us, you should have the right to name him or her. I personally do not like getting a pre-named registered puppy, and tend to avoid breeders who practice this.  I mainly avoid it because if I'm paying a certian price for the puppy I want, I should have the right to name him or her as I see fit - it's part of the fun of having a new puppy.  (We do nickname our puppies, but we don't register their names before they leave. We nickname them because we can't keep calling all of them "puppy"!  Plus- telling my husband to go get the black & white puppy would just leave him shaking his head.)  If you decide totake one of our puppies home, as soon as you decide on a name, we begin using it so your puppy can start becoming familiar with it.  The following lists are our own dog's call names, and lists of popular names for boy and girl Sibes we've heard.  I hope that this page will give some ideas on possible names for your new Siberian.

Most everyone emails me when they've decided on a name.  They are all excited and share the pup's names meaning.  It isn't that I don't care - I'm really glad you are excited, but if someone explains to me that the name "Luna" means moon, and they believe they are the only person that has thought of it one more time, I'm probably going to puke. Sorry - we have had at least 15 "Luna's" in the past two years.   I know what most names mean - and after this long, not many of them are new and unusual.

My "professional" opinion on naming your new family member.

1.  If you plan on using the word "No" when correcting your pup, don't name him/her something that rhymes with it or ends with the same vowel sound!

2.  If you are thinking of an interesting name like "Prudence," or "Mathers," but aren't sure, go outside and yell it like you're calling your pup.  If you don't feel like an idiot, then you're okay!
